For many, paying for internet-based services takes a while of getting used to, especially when there almost always a FREE alternative to any services out there. For example, why subscribe to a newspaper when you could read the news online, anytime, anywhere; and what's more, you get to save trees in the process. One might lead to the same thinking of why would I pay to post my job opportunity somewhere, when there are free alternative job boards (like Craigslist).
Answer: value proposition.
I founded Fresnojobs.org last Fall 2005 because I did not want to pay Fresno Bee job posting fees of $245. For a starting company (I operate a health care services company as well), $245 is a lot of bucks to shell out. So I put my web skills to work and launched Fresnojobs.org (FJ). During the succeeding months, I paid no attention to it, but was getting a couple of resumes here and there. Then suddenly, after 6 months, I studied the statistics of how it is getting its traffic, and lo and behold, I was first ranked in Google Search. Fast forward 1 year, I got the number one link from the
City of Fresno website for "Resources for Finding Jobs". Nice.
I had one problem though: SPAM. Noise. I mean have you seen Craigslist's Fresno job board? It's nuts. You can't tell what's a real job and what's not (the RSS feed of which is located at our home page by the way). So, I started moderating the website, before jobs get posted. After one problem solved comes another: limited resource for moderation --- specifically: time. Also, job posters got turned off because they had to wait before a job gets posted. It's not real time; totally against Internet mantra.
So, I've given the project some thought this year and decided to charge for the service, so at least I could put some needed time to it, but have added more features in the process that will entice clients to join in. In MBA speak,
increase my value proposition.
So now, in addition to just posting job opportunities at an affordable price, customers get to do the following as well: post jobcasts using video and audio, attach files to job posts like job descriptions and application forms, create a robust company profile for search engine marketing (we at least PR4 --- tell that to your SEO specialist and they will tell you to link up), pipe a company RSS feed into the profile, enter recruitment events like job fairs and career open houses, embed OpenSocial apps in company profiles, and network with fellow employers through
Connections. Pheewww... I have got to breathe... I would say that's a bunch.
But I would add that you be the judge.

But of course, we hope you wouldn't, and instead help us create a thriving career-focused community here in Central Valley. We are the most affordable job board service in the Valley and with the proper services demand, it would stay that way.
